Update Unit Via Purchase Order

Enhancement Overview

This enhancement introduces the ability to update a linked Unit record directly from a Purchase Order Line. It ensures that key purchase information entered during procurement can be quickly and accurately reflected on the unit record, reducing duplication and improving data consistency across the system.

Users can trigger updates manually, receive prompts when key values change, or rely on automatic updates during purchase order posting.

How It Works

When working with a purchase order line that represents a unit:

  • A new Update Unit action is available directly on the line.

  • Selecting this action prompts for confirmation before updating the linked unit record with the latest purchase line details.

In addition:

  • If key financial fields such as Direct Unit Cost or Line Amount are changed, the system will prompt the user to update the linked unit.

  • When the purchase order is posted:

    • The system validates that required unit-related fields are completed

    • It automatically updates the unit record for lines that are ready to be received or invoiced

If the system cannot safely complete the update (for example, if the unit is missing or blocked), the process will stop and return an error to prevent unintended changes.

Why Is It Useful?

This enhancement ensures your unit records stay accurate and up to date without the need for manual rekeying, reducing duplication and the risk of errors. As you enter or update purchase order details, you can easily push that information directly into the linked unit, giving you confidence that key data such as pricing, specifications and identifiers are always aligned.

The system also proactively prompts you when updates are needed and automatically applies them during posting, helping you maintain consistent and reliable unit data while speeding up your purchasing and stock onboarding process.
