Custom Report Migration

Microsoft has confirmed that Custom Report Layouts will be deprecated in a future release of Business Central. While this change has not yet taken effect, it is part of a wider move towards a new report layout framework.

To help you prepare in advance, we are introducing tooling to support the migration of your existing custom report layouts into the newer model. The Custom Report Migration report enables you to transition your current layouts now, allowing you to adopt the new approach ahead of the official deprecation.

Taking action at this stage ensures your reporting setup is aligned with Microsoft’s direction and helps avoid any disruption when Custom Report Layouts are eventually retired.

It is important to note that, in the meantime (including in version 28):

• Your existing Custom Report Layouts will remain accessible

• Custom report selection will continue to function as expected

By completing this migration early, you can stay ahead of the change and ensure a smooth transition to the new report layout model.

How to Migrate your Reports

These steps will guide you through the report migration tool we have added to help make the transition from Custom Reports to Report Layouts much smoother, taking away the hassle.

Step 1: Run the Custom Report Migration Process

• Access the Custom Report Migration feature within Park Management Setup.

• Complete the migration process to convert existing custom layouts into the new structure, you can choose to filter to specific reports if you want to manage the reports in batches.

Step 2: Validate Migrated Reports

• For reports that have succesfully migrated, head to ‘Report Layouts’ to view these.

• Check over some of the formatting and any specific changes you have made to ensure the report is correct.

• Run the reports where necessary to ensure outputs match expectations.

Step 3: Update Report Selection (if required)

• Navigate to Report Selection areas within Business Central

• Confirm that the migrated report layouts are now correctly linked

• Reassign layouts if any reports are no longer pointing to the expected version

What Changes?

As part of this migration, you may notice changes in the following areas:

Report Selection

• Report selection entries will now reference report layouts that have been migrated, meaning you do not need to remap any of these reports.

Report Layout Fields

• Custom Report Layout fields will still be visible until the deprecation takes place, this will then see those fields removed. at present the system will reflect both fields within Report Selection screens.

Report Behaviour

• In most cases, reports will behave exactly as before, with no additional setup or configuration.

• Any errors when migrating reports will likely be due to changes in the dataset that have taken place.
