Match Purchase Invoices to Multiple Order and Reciept Lines

Enhancement Overview

Microsoft have introduced an enhancement to the purchase invoicing process that provides greater flexibility when matching invoices to purchase orders and receipts.

This allows you to match a single purchase invoice line to multiple purchase order lines and receipt lines, helping you handle more complex purchasing scenarios. The enhancement improves invoice accuracy and reduces posting errors, particularly where there are partial receipts, multiple orders, or missing receipt information.

How It Works

This functionality enhances the purchase invoice matching process within Business Central.

You can now:

  • Use the new Get Order Lines action on purchase invoices

  • View purchase order lines that are:

    • Received but not yet invoiced

    • Not yet received

  • Match a single invoice line to multiple purchase order lines or receipt lines

  • Review and manage matching through the Matched Order Lines page

  • Adjust quantities, add additional lines, and review discrepancies (such as price or amount differences)

When receipts do not yet exist, you can still match the invoice directly to the purchase order and decide later how to handle receiving.

You can also enable a Receipt on Invoice option, which automatically creates the required receipts when the invoice is posted (with some limitations depending on setup).

Why Is It Useful?

This enhancement provides much greater flexibility when working with purchase invoices, especially in more complex purchasing scenarios.

By allowing invoice lines to be matched across multiple orders and receipts, it reduces manual work, improves accuracy and ensures invoices can be processed even when receipts or orders do not perfectly align. This helps streamline purchasing workflows and minimise errors during invoice posting.
